I love incorporating science into our preschool activities because it’s so easy to do. Science is all around us, in almost everything – art, water, ice, concoctions, gravity etc. and I always look for science projects that are both visually appealing, fun, and if possible, surprising!
This project demonstrates the concept of diffusion which is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Diffusion can happen with liquids. When we spray the water-based ink with water, the color diffuses across the filter. This happens because the water dissolves the ink, allowing it to flow outward.
It’s easy to teach children basic scientific concepts with common, household supplies, and you can do it in a way that’s it’s fun – SO fun, the kids won’t even realize you’re teaching a lesson.
